PET and BO-PET Films

Polyethylene phthalate (PET) is one of the frequently preferred films to add rigidity (stiffness) to the main structure in the flexible packaging industry. PET is made from a crystalline or amorphous structure. The crystal (crystal) one is called C-PET, the amorphous one is called A-PET. PET packages used from microwave products are C-PET. The PET used in water bottles is A-PET.

It is also modified with PET Glycol and this structure is called G-PET (PETG). G-PET is used in thicker and thicker structures.

During the production of PET, it is brought into a more rigid bif form by applying bidirectional (Bi-axial) stretching. This type of film is called BO-PET.

BO-PET films are generally 12 micron. thickness, and although not as much as EVOH or PA, it can show a barrier feature.

BO-PET films are used as matte, glossy or metallized. Metallized ones are used to keep sunlight away from the product, while matte ones are preferred for surface modification and creating al-meine.

Properties of polyester film;

» They are denser than polyethylene and polypropylene,
» They can show more barrier properties than polyethylene and polypropylene,
» They can withstand high temperatures,
» They are rigid,
» There are glossy, matte and metallized types.

Its main usage areas are;

» In order to give rigidity to the structure,
» In retort and pasteurization applications,
» In order to protect the product from sunlight,
» In surface modifications,
